3D Modeling Games Art

3D Modeling - 3D comes with camera angles. In 2D you are stuck with the images you see, but in 3D you can rotate and move the camera freely. That’s a pretty big difference. You can also use different angles to create rear views or even 3d modeling and 3D maps (just move the camera very high and you can see a good map of the level).

3d character modeling

2D Artists draw pixels (and concepts), while for 3D you need to prepare the concept, create the mesh, texture, rig and animate the character. Basically: you may need an artist to create a character in 2D, but you may have three artists to create 3d modeling character motion.

Creating art for 2D games may sound less complex. It is possibly true that 2D art requires less 3D artists, but creating 3d modeling game art assets might actually require less time in a long run. If you have a highly detailed 2D character and you need to change the animation no choice but to redraw the animation. If instead you need to make changes to the 3D character animation - you must not touch the mesh or texture or bones - only for animation.

I’m a fan of 3D art and somehow I like how you can separate different areas of artistic production. That helps in the production, and if you still want to use 2D - you can always change the camera view.
